Eat

Here are some of the things I’ve fed myself over the last several months. Some of them were delicious. Some… not so much. Food is a lot to think about.

I’m mostly eating whole food, plant based. Occasionally, I’ll have some beef from the local cow we get each year or venison from the dear my husband or father-in-law shoots. My main rule of thumb is that if it’s processed or has more than a minimal number of recognizable ingredients, I probably won’t eat it.

Do I miss the way I used to eat?

Sometimes.

Do I feel much better eating this way?

Absolutely!

I’m still playing around with a few things, including various supplements. Overall, I’ve lost some weight, and I have more energy.

I believe that the way I am eating now will be the way I continue to eat into the future. It’s hard sometimes, though. The US food system is not designed with health in mind. I do believe that the food we eat either contributes to health or to harm in our bodies, so the more whole and nutritious food we consume, the better.

That said, nobody’s perfect. And Lord knows I haven’t been perfect following a whole food plant based diet, either. Sometimes, the temptation is too much, and it’s worth it to stray a little bit. And when I do, I give myself grace and make different choices at the next meal.

My goal is to get entirely off all of my supplements and stay healthy by feeding my body good food, quality water and daily fresh air. I think it’s possible.

What’s your favorite healthy way to eat?
