First Encounter

Your emcee is usually the first person your audience encounters. Don’t let them be the last person you hire!

As an emcee, I pride myself on my preparation. I’ve been hired at the last minute for several events, and guess what? It wasn’t my best work.

Your emcee is so much more than an announcer. The emcee sets the tone, holds the space and keeps the action going! In order for your vision to come to life, you need a presence on stage who understands you, your brand and your ultimate goal for your event. An emcee can’t get a proper handle on it if you don’t hire them until the last minute.

Personally, I prefer to start working with an event host at least 90-days before the event date. Yes, I know that some of you like to wing it and plan events in three weeks or less, and we can totally work together that way, but let me tell you, it’s not ideal.

When you bring me on board from the start, I can do so much more than show up and read your script! I can write my own script! I can take so much more off YOUR plate when you partner with me at the beginning. With several months to consult and plan with you, I can offer perspective, personalization and connections to resources you may need.

I pride myself on my network, and if you’re looking for speakers or sponsors, I probably know someone who would be a good fit for your event! Without time to make those introductions, however, you and those speakers and sponsors miss out.

Another thing I love to do to prepare to emcee an event is to connect in advance with speakers, team members and other vendors. Everyone has busy lives, so it helps to have a few months to research and make those introductions and conversations happen.

Finally, a well-connected emcee can also help you promote your event. As an emcee, when you invest in me, I commit myself to making your event a success. I’m going to post your event on my website and all over my social media. I’m going to email my list and invite them to buy tickets and share with their friends. When I am confident that we are creating something amazing together, I’m going to tell the world.

The best events are cohesive, intentional and audience-focused. When you include your emcee in the planning process, you reduce your stress and elevate the experience for everyone involved!
